Wine Bottles
The Alps are central to the history of Europe, and of wine. Under the Roman Empire, the mountains served at one time as a boundary beyond which growing grapes was forbidden. Today, the Alps still represent a fluid boundary that divides the cultures of Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern Europe. On the slopes of the mountains and in their vicinity, distinct local cultures grow wines in a variety of styles. These regions, home to both local obscurities and world-famous wines, are the focus of our list.
